Computed Topography

On-going collaboration with mu-Vis centre at University of Southampton that looks at a range of archaeological data. Computed tomography generates three dimensional images of the interior of an object from a large series of two dimensional x-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation. The technique allows for a non-destructive evaluation of the data which produces two dimensional and three dimensional cross section images. The data can then be manipulated and analysed to show the internal structure of the object and allows for the dimensions, shape, internal defects and density to be analysed. Current research is focused on a number of coin hoards from the British Museum to analyse and date the individual coins.
