CAA2012 starts in 12 hours

Well I can’t quite believe it but CAA2012 is finally here. We first proposed Southampton as the venue for the conference early in 2009, and now I am watching the #caasoton tweets as people arrive, check in, find the nearest pub and get on with conference fun. Tim Sly and I are unbelievably grateful to everyone here who has put in so much effort to make this happen. Some of them are named in the guide.

If you are lost, confused, missing something or otherwise stuck then I would try tweeting @caasoton first. Make sure you follow the @caasoton account. If not then try @ArchCRG to get hold of a member of the Archaeological Computing Research Group. Other information like taxis, trains etc. are listed in the guide above on page 3. There is also a handy map on the website of all the venues.

Tomorrow kicks off with the workshops at 10am at Avenue Campus. We suggest that you make your own conference schedule using sched.org. The link for CAA2012 is http://caaconference.org/caa2012/programme/schedule/ Just click My Schedule on the top right.

If you are coming for the plenary then get here as early as you can. You can easily walk to the Halls of Residence from the Avenue Campus and outside the plenary venue in Building 32, but allow plenty of time so you can check in and get back to the plenary. Coaches will go down to the welcome reception in the Old Town straight after the plenary and you won’t want to bring your bags and get in the way of the scary Morris Dancers :-)

We are all really looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones. See you tomorrow!
